Episode 393 – Runkle of the Bailey and C21

Scoop ALERT! In this episode, C-21 is reviewed by SFR friend and Criminal Defence Lawyer, Ian Runkle. Ian dissects the flawed bill and points out that the municipal handgun ban is enforceable/punishable only if you have a licence, criminals get “a pass” or are “exempt”. Other victims of C-21 – the movie industry, law enforcement and Provincial CFOs. C-21, is it election fodder or about public safety? Have a listen, we’ll let you make that decision.

Episode 392

Attention Handgun Owners, Airsofters, Paintballers, Crossbowers and even you Cosplayers… C-21, are you up to speed on what it means for you? This week, Random Dave, Adriel and Kelly reviewed the bill and gave opinions on whether it will impact public safety and address gun violence, or just impact lawful gun owners. Our viewers also chimed in with their thoughts on the seriously flawed bill. We encourage you to become involved, chat with non-gunnies and reach out to your local councillors. Thanks for listening, don’t forget to subscribe to YouTube and drop by the Facebook page to give us a review.

Email example for contacting councillors:

Hi COUNCILLOR,

I’m one of your constituents in Ward XYZ. The Liberal party reaffirmed today that they want to grant municipalities the ability to ban legal handgun ownership. I do not want MY_CITY to move forward with any plans to ban them.

Legally owning a handgun in Canada is already very strict and involves a lot of vetting as well as daily automated security checks. Although the stats are difficult to find, for the places that keep stats most gang handguns used in crime are smuggled from the US. That makes banning legal ownership pretty ineffective in addressing gang crime. Most police services agree that municipal handgun bans will be ineffective.

Local sports shooting enthusiasts put on charity matches to benefit local charities like the Stollery Children’s Hospital, and Edmonton businesses like P&D, Cabela’s, Phoenix Gun range and Wild West in the mall benefit from sport shooters and provide job opportunities for locals.

I’d hate to see a positive community forced out of MY_CITY because of misguided or ineffective legislation.

Thank you for your time,
